Listing of Great Hearts
Who are Great Hearts? They are all around you. They are doing simple everyday good acts: parents, children, teachers, nurses, friends and those you have heard of but may not know personally. The 6 attributes engraved within the bracelets are not lofty ideals reserved for the few. They are qualities we all respect and strive for. We can make all good acts, large or small, visible through the bracelets and thus remind ourselves of much good that might go unnoticed. Everyone knows a Great Heart. Look around, HONOR SOMEONE or join the HUMAN RACE FOR PEACE!

Great Hearts Spotlight, Margaret LaVelle
Margaret LaVelle, in her 90th year, grew up during the Great Depression. Over the years she has worked at a variety of jobs. While raising her family, she worked ten years as a secretary in the Arizona Department of Vocational Education. During that time she attended evening college and at the age of 50 graduated with honors with a teaching degree. She is the first person in her family to complete college.
Margaret was instrumental in setting up the Arizona H.E.R.O. vocational training program in which each student was placed in "on the job" training to augment class learning about their select vocational goal. Upon her retirement from teaching high school, Margaret was voted "outstanding Arizona Vocational Teacher of 1981."
Margaret then taught part time in community colleges while training to become a volunteer mediator for Arizona State programs. She was a natural at resolving personal and group conflict. She subsequently opened a private practice as a mediator specializing in family mediation.
At 89 you might think this special lady is "winding down." No not really. A book of her poetry started in 1935 is ready for print. These verses reflect life experiences and personal growth. She attends water exercise classes three times a week, is an avid reader and continues to be hostess to visiting family and friends. She is always available to share her experience and to council those who ask.
Margaret feels her greatest achievements (as well as her greatest joy and pride) consist of her daughter, son, three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
