As a mediator and artist, I have been doing peace projects since the early '70s. These have involved people and places all over the world.  I have observed the many conflicts that have happened over time and the new ones that arise every day. There are many individuals and groups who have worked tirelessly to resolve these problems. Thousands of people have given their lives for the cause of peace.  Our troubled world is no more a peaceful place today than it has ever been in all of history.

Many individuals I have spoken to have the power to make change toward the betterment of all people. Very few will do it because they are operating with separate personal, religious or political interests. Those people who genuinely hold the concern for all humanity as a priority, above and beyond these issues, are scattered around the globe and working feverishly to be heard. There have been some attempts by these people to network, and with the internet, there has been some small progress. It is my view that we cannot afford the time needed to bootstrap ourselves into a combined global voice. We need a plan now that joins all people concerned with the condition of our world and who genuinely have the desire for peace.  We need a project that can involve every person in the world who desires peace regardless of their race, religion, culture or status. We need to be the change.  We need to declare the six attributes of peacemakers. We need a simple symbol and statement easily available to everyone and that is visible to the world. We need a way to identify each other. We need a simple way to show ourselves as people with great hearts.

The Great Heart Project has grown out of these considerations. I have created the Great Heart bracelet for people to wear as a response to these considerations and as a declaration of the desire for world peace. Through the bracelets we will be able to see hope and common ground worn on the wrist. I envision thousands of people worldwide wearing the Great Heart bracelet as a visible statement.

Never before in history have all the individuals of the world joined together with one singular focus to create peace. It is happening now. It is we who are doing it. We are the human race for peace. We are the Great Hearts.
